Google has apologized for the bug and thanked Check Point for reporting it. The company said that the it was caused by a “configuration error” and that it has been fixed in the latest version of the WhatsApp app.

The issue was particularly concerning because it allowed WhatsApp to access users’ microphones even when the app was not in use. This meant that users could be recorded without their knowledge, even if they were not actively using the app.

It has been fixed in the latest version of the WhatsApp app, which is available for download from the Google Play Store. Users are advised to update their apps as soon as possible to protect their privacy.

The error was only present in Android devices and it did not affect iOS devices. Google says that it has fixed it in the latest version of WhatsApp, which is version 2.22.15.12.

It was first reported on June 16, 2023. Google fixed it on June 17, 2023.
