BADLAPUR, MAHARASHTRA – Hundreds of families in Badlapur West have been without electricity for more than 10 hours after a major power cable was accidentally damaged during road excavation work in the Manjarli area on Monday. The incident compounded the frustration of residents who were already dealing with a planned power cut for maintenance work.

The day began with a scheduled power shutdown by the MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd.) for routine maintenance in areas including Manjarli, Belavali, and Hendrepada. However, just as residents were expecting the supply to be restored, a new crisis emerged. A backhoe involved in local road work reportedly snapped a main underground power cable, plunging the area back into darkness.

“First, we had the planned outage all day, and now this,” said a frustrated resident from the Manjarli area. “We have had no electricity since yesterday morning. It’s impossible to work, and the children are struggling.”

MSEDCL officials confirmed their teams have been on-site since last evening, working to locate the fault and carry out the complex repairs. “Repairing a main cable takes time. We are doing our best to restore the connection as soon as possible,” an official stated. The incident highlights a lack of coordination between different civic departments, leading to prolonged hardship for local citizens.
