KALYAN-AMBERNATH REGION – In response to a shocking incident where two nursery students fell from a moving school van, the Kalyan Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced a special drive to crack down on vehicles flouting safety norms. The incident, which occurred on the Kalyan-Badlapur road, has sparked outrage among parents across the region.

The two young children fell from the back of an overcrowded Maruti Eeco school van after its faulty door swung open on a turn. Both children sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. The incident has highlighted the widespread issue of transport vehicles operating in violation of safety rules, often with more children than the permitted capacity.

The Kalyan RTO has stated it will conduct surprise inspections of school vans and other transport vehicles in the coming weeks. “Our primary focus will be on vehicle fitness, capacity violations, and safety features like proper door locks and window grills,” said an RTO official. “We will also be running awareness campaigns for parents.”

To help ensure child safety, local parents are advised to check their child’s transport vehicle. A basic safety check includes verifying the vehicle’s fitness certificate, ensuring there are no more than 1.5 children per seat, and confirming that doors and windows are secure. Any violations can be reported directly to the Kalyan RTO.
